Well, it's not so bad, all of the time.

[ she tilts her head. ]

What do you mean?

Sometimes it's nice, opening up to people. You can get to know them really well and making friends like that...It's really special.

[ it looks like she's taking in what he's saying. ]

...Do you think you can do that around me?

Of course.

[He laughs, softly.]

Pretty sure I already have.

[ her eyes widen when he says that. he...has?

now it's ana's turn to be flustered. her cheeks are red and she's practically speechless. ]

[He could tease her about it, but he decides not to, instead closing his eyes and starting to hum along again. The song has changed by now, but it doesn't matter.]

[highelves]

[ that's for the best. ana looks downwards, then goes back to leaning her head on his shoulder.

quietly, almost breathlessly: ]

Thank you, Lance.

[His response is a tightening of his hold on her, before he lets out a soft huff.]

[ oh, that feels really nice. ana can't help but smile, and she's content to just dance with him in silence for a while.

the song changes again, and ana looks up at him. ]

I wish I'd asked you to go with me to prom.

[He can't help the grin that crosses his face.]

I don't know, it wasn't so bad meeting you there.

[A beat.]

And there's always next year...?

Certainly.

[ she's paranoid that there won't be a next year, whether it's because of nightfall or because they'll just drift apart. but she won't voice that concern. she doesn't want to ruin the moment. ]

Would you like to keep dancing? Or should we sit down?

[thegoofball]

I'd love to keep dancing all night long, but...

We should probably sit down. You shouldn't exert yourself.

[He has no worries about there being a next year. Things are going to go fine - they're going to make sure of that.]

[highelves]

That's a very good point.

[ she pulls back and grins at him. ana sits at the edge her bed again and pats on the space next to her. ...if he wants to. ]

[He would be a Fool not to take this opportunity.

He takes a seat, leaning back on the bed and giving her a smile.]

I hope you heal up quickly.

[ she smiles at him. ]

I already feel a lot better, thanks to you.

[And he means that sincerely. He's glad he could make a difference, no matter how small.]

[ she nods. she's still worried about what he said earlier, wanting to be on the battlefield and all, but...he seems happier, now. she's glad for it. ]

Please let me know when you'd like to head back, by the way. There's absolutely no pressure to keep me company.

...Of course, I wouldn't say no if you wanted to stay longer.

Hey, it's not a big deal. There's nowhere I'd rather be right now.

[He smiles, reaching out to place his hand on top of hers. It's a show of support.

[ oh.

ana's surprised again -- seems like lance is really good at surprising her tonight -- and she pauses for a moment before she turns her hand over and curls her fingers around his palm. ]

Really?

[thegoofball]

Really.

[He gives her hand a squeeze.

This is...nice. So much nicer than he was expecting, when he got her message.]

[ she's so red, but she's not going to turn him away. ]

...I...

[ she lets out a sigh. ] I've only known you and the others for a short amount of time, but...Daybreak is perhaps the closest thing to home I've ever had.

[That's...

It makes Lance's heart hurt, in a way. He's only here because of his family, but it sounds like Ana doesn't have that, if Daybreak is a home to her.]

I'm glad you have a home here.

[And he is, even though it hurts to know she didn't have a home before.]

[ she nods. he's not wrong in thinking that -- it's completely true, actually. ]
