A bit, yes. Mostly awake because of adrenaline and nerves, I think.

[ she sits on his bed, crossing her legs. ]

I don't mind lying down if you'd like to get some sleep, though.

So you'll probably crash as soon as that wears off.

[He sits down next her her, placing the otter on his bedside table.]

That sounds good to me, though.

[highelves]

Most likely.

[ she smiles up at him before she opts to lie down on the bed, on her side so she can face him. ]

I hope today will be a good day for you.

[thegoofball]

Well...

[He lays back, smiling at her softly.]

So far it's off to a pretty great start.

[highelves]

I'm glad to hear that.

[ she smiles back at him. ]

I will do what I can to make sure the rest of it is good for you, too.

[thegoofball]

I'm sure you'll manage.

[It's not like she has to work hard to make his days better.

He closes his eyes, placing an arm over Ana.]

You already make every day better.

[So much for playing it cool, Lance.]

[ oh no??? he's so cute. ana smiles once his arm drapes over her, and she moves in closer, laughing softly. she lightly rests her head under his chin. she can't stop grinning. ]

That's really sweet, Lance.

[ she sighs happily. ] I can say the same thing.

[thegoofball]

[Aww, yeah, he's got the stuff.]

I'm just calling it like I see it.

[He presses a kiss to her forehead, before leaning back so he can get some sleep.]

[ she smiles, and she's more than content to let him get some rest. soon enough, ana drifts off to sleep, too.

but she doesn't have her lamp. she dreams. and her dreams...are unpleasant. the herald fight plays in her head again. james is next to her, and they're running away, terrified when the necromancer takes aim at them. she pushes him away with a body of water, and it's almost exactly like the battle itself--

except the explosion doesn't go off. no, instead, ana is swept away by a giant wave. it takes her, and she feels herself drowning, sinking into the ocean.

that's when she wakes up, lets out a gasp, and starts breathing heavily. ]

[Lance wouldn't consider himself a light sleeper, so he's not sure why he's suddenly awake. He blinks for a moment, before he notices Ana - clearly distressed.

He lets out an alarmed noise, pushing himself up and reaching out to her.]

Ana? Ana, are you okay?

[highelves]

[ she was hoping she wouldn't wake lance up, but alas. she's tearing up, just like the first time he saw her have a nightmare, and she sniffles as she wipes at her eyes with the back of her hand. ]

I-I'll be alright. I'm sorry for waking you.

[thegoofball]

Hey, it's okay.

[He reaches over to her, stroking her hair.]

Another nightmare, huh?

[He hates that he can't make it better, that she's being haunted by what happened, but...all he can do is be there for her.]

[ she hates that he has to comfort her like this. she hates that she's crying in front of him. she ducks her head, ashamed -- even though she shouldn't be -- and nods. ]

Yes.

[ she takes a few moments to cry. it's hard to speak. it's not until she can catch her breath when she murmurs: ]

I'm sorry...on your birthday, too...

[thegoofball]

Hey, that doesn't matter. My birthday's just any other day.

[He keeps stroking her hair, pulling her close and tucking her head under his chin.]

Just take deep breaths. It's okay.

[highelves]

[ he's so good to her, and ana thinks she doesn't deserve him. her breaths are shaky, but she tries to pull herself together. it's hard, but she has to try. ]

I...

[ she hugs him. her fingers pull on his shirt. ]

I'm scared...

[thegoofball]

[He holds her close, resting his chin against her head. He...wants to do what he can, to make her feel safe.]

That's okay. It's okay to be scared. But you're fine, here. Nothing's going to hurt you.

[highelves]

I know.

[ she says it shakily, and she clings to him like her life depends on it. ]

I'm safe with you.

[thegoofball]

You are.

[He's going to try his best to make sure she always feels safe with him.]

It's okay.

[highelves]

[ he's so good to her, and ana hesitates for a moment. ]

...Lance?
